Heads or Tails

For singing time yesterday, I decided to play a little game of Heads or Tails.  I downloaded a coin toss application on my iPad, but you could use your cell phone, a real coin, or an oversized cardboard cutout for a coin.  I really played up the coin toss, since the app made the sound of the coin flicking and clinking as it landed and it was a great motivator for the kids to be quiet enough to hear it "land."

The Props:
  • A coin
  • 6 cards labeled "Heads."  Write the names of 6 songs for review on the back of the cards.
  • 6 cards labeled "Tails."  Write down a challenge on the back of each card.  For example:  name all of the kids in your class, give all of the grownups in the room a high-5, pick a wiggle song and lead it, name 5 songs we're singing in the program, name the members of the bishopric, tell your favorite scripture story and share why it's your favorite, etc.
The Game:
  • I flipped the coin to decide if I would choose the helper or if a teacher would pick the helper from their class.  The child got to flip the coin, and if it landed on Heads, we sang the program song written on the back.  If it landed on Tails, the child got to do the task written on the back.  To make it fun, I had cards with fun ways of singing for the kids to choose from when we landed on Heads.  I didn't want them to groan when we had to sing a program song!
Here is a link to the cards that I made for this game.  You can print off as many as you want - you may need more than 6 of each, depending on the songs and challenges you choose.  Of course, I laminated them so I could use them again with different songs and activities down the road.  Have fun!

  8. It would be really awesome if you could re-do the PDF with one full page of heads and one full page of tails, that way we could print each set on a different color of card stock paper. And there wouldn't be any wasted space, either. :) I can't edit the PDF on my own. Thanks!
