Popcorn Bopping

Here is a little bit of ear-candy for you.  We got this CD a couple of days ago, and it's been on repeat ever since then.  My kids (ages 6 &3) are singing along, dancing, and have learned every word to every one of these songs!

What a FUN way to have the primary songs playing.  I love that they all sound like songs that are currently on the radio (Colby Caillet, C-Lo Green, Miley Cyrus), but they are actually songs with an uplifting message.  Talk about keeping up with the times!

Now, I understand that this type of thing isn't for everyone.  But if it's your speed, it's definitely worth the investment.  You can buy it at Deseret Book, Amazon, and probably a hundred other places if you Google it.  Here is the only preview I could find online...

The remix of "I Hope They Call Me On a Mission" is AWESOME!  Complete with a little bit of rap.  You gotta love it!

Let me know what you think!  Do any of you already have this CD?  How do you like it?

Praise to the Man - Verse 3

This activity comes straight from this month's Friend magazine (June 2011, p. 43).  I always look for ways to incorporate the games and activities that are there, and this activity seemed perfectly suited for Praise to The Man.

First, here is the attachment to the worksheet.

Second, this activity is definitely more suited for Senior Primary.  However, if your primary is mixed, you can still use it - just have the oldest class(es) come to the front and sit with the yougest class(es).  I have done this, and it's a sure fire way to get the older kids to participate happily and the younger kids to feel loved by the older ones.

You can do this by class if you have a large group, or individually - it's really up to you.  Once the words are on the page and in their heads, singing it should come easily.  Have the piano player quietly play the music in the background, not only to set the mood but so the tune is in their heads as they find the words.

I created this puzzle late at night, and I've completed it twice but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's correct.  If you find an error, make sure you let me know!

Have fun, and let me know how it goes with your primary :)

Summer Kick-Off Giveaway!

For most of us, the school year is finally over!  No more morning carpool, no packing lunches, no late-night homework sessions.  Aaahhhh.....summer.

With summer kicking into full swing, I thought it would be fun to do a Summer Kick-Off Giveaway!  Up for grabs this time around will be a set of all new Fun Ways to Sing Cards.  This set will include 10 new laminated cards to add to your collection.  And don't worry - I will make them available for you to download as soon as a winner is announced.

So here's how to enter this giveaway:

1.  As always, you can become a follower or add my button to your website.  Make sure to post a comment so you get credit for the entry.
2.  Post a comment in the form of a question or an answer.  Here's how:

  • A question could be something like, "What do I do when..." or "How do I..." or "What is the best way to..."
  • An answer would simply be an answer to a  previously posted question.  If you choose to answer a question, make sure to reference the comment you are responding to (they are numbered).

You will get one entry for each question and/or answer that you post.  I will start things off by posting a common question I am asked by other choristers.

What advice are you seeking?  What wisdom are you able to share with others?

A winner will be announced on Monday, June 13th, so make sure to check back often and see if there are any new questions that need your expertise!  Good luck!
