Confession

Well, hello!  I feel like I haven't posted anything new or exciting for a while.  Sorry!  I have been keeping up on all of the other primary blogs out there, though...doesn't it seem like there's a whole new wave of awesome?  Ahh, you have to love new blood!  I've been spending most of my time working on Cub Scouts stuff lately...
Which brings me to the confession part:  I was actually released back in May, after a very short 7 months in this calling.  I know what you're thinking, but don't hate me!  I'm not an imposter, I just love primary!  And I guess I just wasn't ready to be released yet, even though it was clearly time to be done.

I do have lots of ideas still rattling around in my head, though, so I'll keep posting if you don't mind.  I seem to see primary everywhere!  In fact, I was reading something in the Teaching:  No Greater Call book today that reminded me of how I feel about primary (and all of my callings, really).  It's on page 48, and the quote is this:

As you prayerfully prepare to teach, as you study the scriptures, and even as you perform your daily tasks, open your mind and heart to the Lord's guidance.  You may receive "sudden strokes of ideas" from the Spirit.  You may be led to emphasize certain principles.  You may gain an understanding of how best to present certain ideas.  You may discover examples, object lessons, and inspiring stories in the simple activities of life.  You may feel impressed to invite a particular person to assist with the lesson.  You may be reminded of a personal experience that you can share.  Write these ideas down, and prayerfully follow them.

I love this quote, and I especially love how it talks about being led by the Spirit in the simple activities of life.  This is how inspiration comes, and I feel blessed that I continue to be inspired with ideas for primary music, even though I don't do it every week.  I can't wait for the opportunity to come up again for me to be able to serve and learn from the primary children!

Now, as I apply these principles to Cub Scouts, I am becoming equally passionate about passing off achievements for my Bears and Wolves!  The Lord puts us in so many different situations - our challenge is to learn to grow where we're planted.

And if we're lucky, we'll turn into beanstalks.

  3. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I feel like I get a new wave of ideas right before I am released from any calling. Feels like a bit of a waste but if I had written them down say on a blog or something. . . no waste--new resource!
